ENGLISH, VERBAL REASONING, PRIMARY, 11+
My passion for supporting dyslexic students stems from personal experience with my son, whose special educational needs led me to develop a deeper understanding of the challenges children face. This inspired my commitment to helping students with special educational needs reach their full potential. I hold an OCR Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Learners with Dyslexia and other SpLDs, as well as a BA (Hons) in English Literature.
Teaching Experience:
I am a Helen Arkell-trained Level 5 specialist teacher based in Battersea, SW11, providing tailored, multi-sensory tuition in literacy and numeracy for primary and secondary students, including 11+ and GCSE support. My structured and engaging approach builds confidence, independence, and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
When working with a new student, I begin with an informal assessment to identify their specific needs and set clear learning targets. My literacy support covers phonics, reading accuracy, spelling, comprehension, creative writing, study skills, and handwriting, while my numeracy support focuses on building number sense and problem-solving skills. I use a range of specialist methods, including Orton-Gillingham, Alpha to Omega, Structured Word Inquiry, and Inference Training, to ensure each lesson is engaging and effective.
In addition to literacy and numeracy tuition, I offer touch typing support (TTRS), music theory for sight-reading, and liaise with school staff where necessary. For students preparing for 11+ and entrance exams, I provide targeted support in creative writing, comprehension, SPaG, and verbal reasoning, either in one-on-one sessions or small group settings.
