Christopher
LATIN, ANCIENT GREEK
I was educated at Clifton College in Bristol as a day-boy, doing Latin, Greek and English A-levels, I went on as a scholar to Merton College, Oxford, where I read Greats (Language and Literature in Part I, History and Philosophy in Part II) and won prizes for composition in Greek prose and Latin verse, as well as for Literature.
I was Head of Department at Ibstock Place School then Head of University Applications at South Hampstead High School, during which time I wrote two textbooks for the OCR A-level syllabus.
I have been a full-time teacher for nearly 20 years, of Latin, Greek, Classical Civilisation and Ancient History, from beginners to A-level and Oxbridge entry. After three years at a girls’ boarding school (Downe House) I moved to be Head of Department at Ibstock Place School (co-educational day), where over seven years I expanded the take-up of the subjects at all levels. I moved to South Hampstead High School to be Head of University Applications and Oxbridge in addition to my role as a classics teacher. After seven years there, I moved from London, and for the first year in the west of England, taught part-time at Marlborough College (Latin at all levels).
