Maths 11+, GCSE, A-Level
I have worked in state and public schools both in the UK and internationally, where my love of teaching maths has helped students go on to study at Berkeley and LSE. I am passionate about helping my students master the tools of problem solving, systematic approaches and strive to explore the gift of education, using good learning practice. Having been Deputy Head of Maths for a year, I swiftly moved back into the classroom full-time as that is where my true passion lies, rather than organising and administering a large department. In the classroom I can encourage individual students to develop self-belief, recognise steps to self-improvement and develop core skills of perseverance and resilience which are applicable to all areas of life. This helps me inspire my students to be confident and comfortable in making mistakes and learning from them to make their rise in attainment even more satisfying.
Having gained a First Class Honours degree in Banking and International Finance (BSc) in 1998, I carved a successful career in the City working as a Financial Analyst for Goldman Sachs and as an Associate Director for RBS, having already had Union Bank of Switzerland, Barclays and NatWest on my CV from my year out between my 2nd and final year at City Business School and summer internships. It was when working at RBS that I discovered a passion for training and teaching through a secondment, setting up a new department for RBS. I made the switch from finance to maths and have now been teaching for 16 years. After completing my PGCE in maths education and training as a NQT in a grammar school in Bromley, near where I grew up, I have never looked back and remain as happy, positive and committed to education as the day I made the career change from finance.
