Chemistry, GCSE, AS Level, A Level

Throughout my long career, I have taught Chemistry in seven senior schools. In 1987, I was appointed Head of Chemistry at Carshalton High School in Sutton in Surrey. Whilst studying for my MA in Education at the Open University, I was appointed Head of Science at Walsingham School in London. I then taught Science at Homefield Preparatory School for 10 years. In 2006, I was appointed Head of Chemistry at Reed’s School in Cobham, Surrey. When I stepped down from the position in 2017, the department had doubled in size and perhaps my most pleasing result was that, of the 40 pupils studying A Level Chemistry that year, 33 went on to take Chemistry-related degrees at leading institutions in the UK, USA and Hong Kong.   Currently, aside from the tutoring I do, which I very much enjoy, I am an examiner for AS and A Level Chemistry since April 2019, which serves as a great advantage of my AS and A Level tutees.

I was born in Birmingham. When I was in my final year of grammar school, I decided that I wanted to be a professional musician; I play the flute and I was in many leading youth orchestras. However, I later decided to study Chemistry at Birmingham University and fell in love with the subject before taking my postgraduate studies in the subject at King’s College London before obtaining my PGCE from the London Institute of Education. Although I never pursued Music, I am now married to a musician!
