I have taught in three different secondary schools, the most recent one for 18 years. It is an academically selective 11-18, coeducational day school in the West Midlands, where the majority of pupils graduate to Russell Group universities and Oxbridge. Throughout my career, I have always taught A Level English Literature. Additionally, I am the author of a number of A Level study guides and also act, twice per year, as a Team Leader marking the International A Level for the Cambridge board. I also examine the International Baccalaureate.
At my present school, at which I have previously been Head of English, we achieve excellent results at all levels, but particularly at (International) GCSE, where exceptionally, on average, 50% of pupils receive Grade 9s in both English Language and English Literature and over 80% achieve Grades 7 and 8.
Education has really been a vocation and it has allowed me to combine another passion: travelling. Some years ago, I worked in Thailand, where I taught English as an Additional Language, and New Zealand working for a refuge for disabled women who had escaped abusive relationships.
