ENGLISH, PRIMARY, 11+

My teaching journey began after graduating from Aston University with a combined honours degree in Psychology, Society & Government, which included a year’s industrial placement at the BBC – Pebble Mill in Radio Production. I later qualified as a teacher by completing a PGCE (Primary) in Birmingham and further deepened my understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) by obtaining the SENCo certification (PG Dip) from UCL, London.

I have taught across all primary key stages (EYFS, KS1, and KS2), and completed the Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) at Kingston University to enhance my understanding of early years pedagogy and provision. My love for the outdoors led me to train as a Forest School Leader, and I’ve also delivered workshops on ‘Supporting Speech and Language Communication in Under 5s’ to Early Years practitioners and parents as part of my SENCo role.

Teaching Experience:

With over 20 years of teaching experience, I am a multi-skilled and seasoned professional. I would describe myself as empathetic and friendly, which helps put children at ease from the start. My teaching style is child-led, ensuring lessons are engaging, age-appropriate, and effective, while aligning with curriculum targets for comprehensive coverage. I thoroughly enjoy working both one-on-one and with small groups.

My deep knowledge of the primary curriculum allows me to identify and close attainment gaps, while building on each student’s strengths to help them reach their full potential. As a professional, I am punctual, thorough, firm yet approachable.

Throughout my career, I have held several leadership roles, including Reception Year Group Leader, Children’s Centre Teacher/Deputy Manager, SENCo, and class teacher for both KS1 and KS2. During my time as Deputy Manager at a Children’s Centre, we achieved an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating in 2014.

Since 2018, I have specialised in home tutoring. Parents regularly report significant progress in their children's learning and confidence. I prepare students for SATs and independent school entrance exams (7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, and 11+), with consistent success thanks to my thorough understanding of both the national curriculum and entrance exam requirements.

Interests:

My love for the outdoors began during my teenage years in Mauritius, where our home was nestled on the side of a dormant volcano. This upbringing fostered a lifelong appreciation for nature. I now make regular trips to the Lake District, where I enjoy long walks and exploring with my family.

I also run a weekly Zumba class for women in Tooting, sharing my passion for fitness and movement. One of my proudest personal achievements is completing the London Marathon in 2021.
